Washington received touchdowns from seven different players and the Prexies remained undefeated with a 57-14 win over Waynesburg in the Century Conference opener for both teams.

The win sets up a showdown for Wash High (1-0, 4-0) next week against unbeaten Chartiers-Houston.

Breydon Woods got Waynesburg (0-1, 1-3) off to a good start by returning the opening kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown. Washington, however, reeled off the game’s next 57 points, including 49 in the first half.

The Prexies would lead 35-7 at the end of the first quarter. Tayshawn Levy, who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns, reeled off scoring runs of 64 and 27 yards in the opening quarter to put Washington in the lead.

Zach Welsh followed with a 20-yard TD scamper and Davon Fuse scrambled 31 yards for another score. Fuse then threw a 55-yard TD pass to Ruben Gordon to make it 35-7.

Mario Griffin picked off a Waynesburg pass and returned it 19 yards for a touchdown, and Carolos Harper broke off a 55-yard touchdown run as the lead grew to 49-7 at halftime.

Elijah Odom’s 22-yard scoring jaunt in the third quarter was the final TD for Washington.

Waynesburg’s Devon Cowell capped the scoring with a 21-yard touchdown reception on a pass by Jacob Stephenson in the fourth quarter.

Wash High rushed for 391 yards and finished with 449 yards total offense. Waynesburg was held to 24 rushing yards and 136 in total offense. Stephenson completed eight of 21 passes.

Carmichaels 44, Mapletown 18

Senior quarterback Trenton Carter ran for four touchdowns and passed for another, powering Carmichaels to a 44-18 win over Mapletown in the Class A Tri-County South Conference opener.

Carter had TD runs of one and 46 yards in the first quarter, seven yards in the third and 28 yards in the fourth. He finished the night with 222 yards on 19 carries.

Carter also fired a 41-yard touchdown pass to Michael Stewart in the second quarter, and an ensuing conversion pass to Ty Richmond, to give the Mikes (1-0, 3-1) a 23-0 lead.

Carter completed nine of 15 passes for 141 yards.

Hunter Oliver returned a Mapletown fumble nine yards for a second-quarter touchdown.

Mapletown (0-1, 2-2) scored on three TD runs by Landan Stevenson, covering 23, five and seven yards. Stevenson rushed for 159 yards on 20 carries.

Jefferson-Morgan 32, Avella 0

Cole Jones passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, and Josh Wise returned an interception for a score, as Jefferson-Morgan won for the first time this season, defeating Avella 32-0 in a penalty-filled Tri-County South Conference opener at Parker Field.

Collin Bisceglia scored two touchdowns for the Rockets (1-0, 1-3), one on a 38-yard catch-and-run and the other on a 14-yard rush on an option play.

Jones staked J-M to a 12-0 lead when he threw a 17-yard TD pass to Colt Fowler in the first quarter and hooked up with Bisceglia in the second.

Jones made it 18-0 with a 17-yard TD jaunt.

Wise’s 30-yard interception return for a score in the fourth quarter sealed the win for the Rockets, who overcame more than 150 yards in penalties.

South Fayette 28, Chartiers Valley 14

Logan Lutz passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, and Christian Brandi returned a kickoff 94 yards for a score, leading South Fayette to a 28-14 win over visiting Chartiers Valley in a nonconference game Friday night.

The Lions (3-1) won the game by outscoring Chartiers valley 14-0 in the second half.

The game was tied 14-14 in the third quarter before Lutz hooked up with Logan Yater on a 23-yard TD that put the Lions in front.

Lutz capped the scoring with a diving 10-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter.

Lutz opened the scoring in the first quarter, hooking up with Conor Harciak for a nine-yard TD pass. Lutz completed 12 of 21 passes for 121 yards.

The Lions’ Nate Deans rushed for 140 yards on 24 carries.

Chartiers Valley (2-2) had a pair of one-yard TD runs by Andrew Mackey in the second quarter. Brandi’s kickoff return came between the scores.

Thomas Jefferson 49, Trinity 7

Undefeated Thomas Jefferson scored 35 first-half points and went on to a 49-7 win over visiting Trinity in the Big Eight Conference opener for both teams.

Caden Bazzoli ran for three touchdowns, covering 60, eight and 43 yards, helping the Jaguars improve to 1-0 in the conference and 3-0 overall.

The only touchdown for Trinity (10-1, 1-3) came in the second quarter when Hunter Strickland capped a drive with a one-yard plunge that cut TJ’s lead to 2-17.

OLSH 33, Burgettstown 13

Our Lady of Sacred Heart scored 19 fourth-quarter points to grab a 33-13 victory from Burgettstown in the Big Seven Conference for both teams.

Steven Greer had runs of 49 yards in the fourth quarter and 60 yards in the third quarter.

Neimiah Azeem tossed two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter for OLSH (3-0).

Jackson LaRocka scored twice for Burgettstown (2-1) on runs of six and 10 yards.

Laurel Highlands 32, Ringgold 29

Rodney Gallagher had a hand in four touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter, as Laurel Highlands rallied past Rinngold, 32-29, in the Big Eight Conference for both teams.

Gallagher had two short runs in the fourth quarter to wipe away the Rams’ lead. Gallagher earlier returned a punt 89 yards for a touchdown.

The win put Laurel Highlands record at 4-0, the first time LH has won four straight to start the season in program history. Ringgold move to 2-2 overall.

Gallagher threw for 172 yards and ran for another 24.

Landon Oslowski scored two touchdowns for Ringggold, rushing for 172 yards on 30 carries.

Ringgold quarterback Deondre Dotson threw one pass, a 24-yards touchdown to Donte Kinds to open the scoring.

In other games

Mt. Lebanon was a 37-7 winner over Canon-McMillan in the Class 6A Quad County Conference opener. McGuffey evened its record at 2-2 by rolling to a 41-0 victory over visiting Charleroi in the Class 2A Century Conference, and Monessen defeated Bentworth 50-7 in a Class A Tri-County South contest. No game details were made available to the Observer-Reporter by press time.
