1970 – Ray Greene scores a school-record 51 points, leading California State to an 89-80 win over visiting Lock Haven. Greene scores 29 of his points in the second half.
1974 – Washington High School wins the team title at the California State College Wrestling Boosters Tournament. The Little Presidents finish with five champions: Curt Ellis (91 pounds), Gary Milligan (98), Tom Diamond (112), Doug Henderson (132) and Mel Gray (138).
1974 – Jim Keller scores 37 points and Kevin Bealko adds 32 as Waynesburg Colleges outscores Washington & Jefferson 98-93 at Henry Memorial Center.
1976 – Delmer Beshore scores 27 of his game-high 41 points during a 15-minute stretch as California State defeats visiting Waynesburg, 104-77.
1979 – Rich Gregory makes two free throws with three seconds remaining to give Belle Vernon a 76-75 victory over Washington.
1984 – Tony Ellis leads four Washington players in double figures with 16 points as the Prexies win their 30th consecutive basketball game, 72-60, over Trinity.
1984 – Immaculate Conception ends a four-year, 36-match wrestling losing streak by defeating vsiiting South Fayette, 28-27. The Comets get a fall from 185-pounder Steve Lopez, who wrestles his first varsity match.
1989 – Less than three weeks before his team plays Texas A&M in the John Hancock Bowl, Mike Gottfried is fired by Pitt as its football coach. The Panthers have a 26-17-2 record in four seasons under Gottfried.
1998 – Canon-McMillan opens the position of head football coach following a 2-8 season under Larry DiIanni.
2005 – The Section 4-AA wrestling match between Chartiers-Houston and Avella is as close as it can get. The teams battle to a 30-30 tie before Avella is awarded a win on the sixth tiebreaker – greater number of first bout points scored.
2006 – Kelly Mornak scores 29 points and Monessen’s girls basketball team defeats Serra Catholic 60-51 to give Greyhounds coach Major Corley his 400th career victory.
2008 – Pittsburgh holds another team under 300 yards in beating Baltimore 13-9. The Steelers tie the 1973 Los Angeles Rams for the longest streak – 14 games to start a season – since the NFL merger in 1970.
2011 – Todd Graham quits after one season as Pitt’s head football coach to take the same position at Arizona State.
