1961 – Ellsworth High School’s Dewey Wilkens scores 60 points in the Tigers’ 121-35 victory over West Greene. Wilkins makes 27 field goals in the game. He scores 13 points in the first quarter, 20 in the second, 10 in the third and 17 in the fourth. Wilkens’ total breaks the Ellsworth single-game school record by 25 points.

1969 – Matthew A. Powers of Fredericktown is named Chairman of the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission.

1975 – Pitt overcomes a 15-point second-half deficit to upset Notre Dame 84-77 in overtime despite 30 points by the Fighting Irish’s Adrian Dantley.

1979 – Trinity’s Tom Sams (132 pounds) becomes the first wrestler to win four Western Conference tournament championships and the Hillers win the team title.

1984 – Kevin Lee scores 23 points and Andrei Constantino has 21 as Charleroi wins its 14th consecutive basketball game, 67-50, over visiting Monessen.

1994 – California’s Traci Marcolini scores a career-high 48 points, including the 1,000th of her career, to go with 24 rebounds and 10 steals, leading the Trojans to a 71-26 win over visiting West Greene.

1996 – Edinboro outlasts visiting California 119-116 in a triple-overtime PSAC West Division women’s basketball game that sets numerous school and conference records.

1998 – Washington’s Sammy Angott, former world lightweight champion, is one of 13 former boxers and ring personalities selected for induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

1998 – Bryant Thomas scores 40 points and grabs 13 rebounds in Bentworth’s 73-58 win over Jefferson-Morgan.

2010 – Brad Wanamaker and Ashton Gibbs each score 19 points as 16th-ranked Pitt defeats No. 15 Connecticut, 67-57, in Hartford, Conn.
