It’s great for Washington County because Washington Coun ty is highlighted it allows us to showcase what we offer for tourism.
I have not been around when they’ve been filmed but I’ve been aware of them. We’ve used county property before in the past.
It’s great when we have any opportunity to show off the courthouse. Washington County’s Courthouse is one of the most beautiful in the Commonwealth. We’re veery proud of its historical architecture.

In my time at the bureau we have seen several productions within our tri-county area.
There’s a lot of charm, a lot of character and a lot of natural beauty
From what we’ve experienced here, thinking back to the bachelorette and the bachelor series being filmed at Nemacolin, there are fans who are willing to travel to re-experience or see the sites themselves in a first-hand experience. Obviously, a franchise like the bachelor or the bachelorette has a huge following.
Amazon filmed A league of their own in Greensburg. Christian Bale filmed scenes from a move, the Pale Blue Eye in the Laughlintown area. There are people who are into those books or into those series or love an artist or an actor and are willing to take that awesome Instagram photo or relive that production scene.
We get those from time to time. There’s still a lot of interest in the Buffalo Bill’s B&B being opened now as a vacation rental has been huge. It was privately owned for a long time. When it went up on the market, we were all cheering please somebody buy it. We lucked out, we have a great partner there.
For production purposes, it’s great that Pittsburgh has an international airport, the city, itself, has that great metro vibe ittsburgh has an international airport, the city, itself, has that great metro vibe.
Moving into the Laurel Highland area, you have charming small towns, stunning natural beauty, great locations that diversify their scenes and their production.
SWe do get a call from time to time looking for referrals and we do have a partnership with the Pittsburgh film office as well as the state tourism office with DCED.
They don’t need our permission, but we certainly like to collaborate and cooperate.
Pale Blue Eye reached out to the township to talk about what they were hoping to do. To onboard the community is important, so they know what’s going on.
Helped with the 2016 season of the bachelorette which was based at Nemacolin but had a lot of off-site adventures for the dates. There was a date at Ohio Pyle state Park. They did a fate night at palace Theater and another restaurant in downtown Greensburg .

You look at inspiration cinematography and you look at how things are shot. Nobody is going to shoot a move and do a poor job of shooting the scenery. They’re going to look for the best spots, no matter what location they’re at. I think when we have opportunities like that to showcase the county and the beauty that we all experience here in Washington county. I think it’s a good thing for everybody, visitors included.
I would assume so, but I don’t have any empirical data to back that up. Trying to cast during COVID with W&J college students and having trouble filling their cast.
We get the best of both worlds. We’re close enough to the city, but we’re far enough away to be in the clear and to see the stars in the sky at night and to be to breathe clean air. We have beautiful scenery here. There’s so many places in Washington County that you can really feel you’re far away from everything, but you’re still close enough to everything. I think we’re pretty lucky to have some of the venues that we have in the county to look at. The Pavilion at Star Lake, what an awesome concert venue. The Hollywood Casino, Tangier Outlets. You really just couldn’t ask for a whole lot more right at your fingertips.

“I think because of the age of it. It’s an authentic old-school diner and there’s not too many of those around much anymore that’s authentic.
They like the old feel of it. One guy said he liked it because it made him feel like he was in the Bronx. It’s right under the Brownsville Bridge. They come down and take pictures. They enjoy it. We get people from out of town
Recently, some college kids did for a short film.
Pin Up shoot for Maria’s Lovers House. It’s exciting. It’s over a 100-year old restaurant.

I’ve had a lot of different movies come through and do a site visit and scout the location for different films. That’s really a fun thing to do.
Foxcather they used us a backdrop that we’re done on college. IOt was really fun to scout that movie. You really bet a feel for what they’re looking for looked at gymasium for wrestling scene.
We have that classic college look with Old Main.
I’ve had really positive experiences When Foxcather came, i was really surprised to see a bus pull up. It was a big, biug bus. I knew it was going to be a lot of people.
walking through henry Gym and one of the producers said, oh my God, we need that giuy in the movie. The school’s swim coach at the time. and he was in it.
Ypou have to really plan it well so it’s not too disruptive because we’re always respectful of the students spaces .
When we did the chair with Sandra Oh and Amanda Peet, the respected every single requirement the college had. All of their team did.
Mindhunter, the parking lot was complete;ly taken over by their rigs. The employye parking lot completely taken over by their rigs.
It takes a lot of negotiating with the company, but also with all the departments on campus to make sure they’re aware of it and they enjoy the experience instead of being put out by it.

Because Mindhunter was so long, some of them got jobs filing at other locations
It’s been a good experience for everybody.
A,manda Peet was fun. She was lovely. She really wanted to know a lot about working at a colege. Arrange for her to talk to chair of english and dean of academic affairs so she could learn about how professors get tenure.
She really wanted to dive into how to write a true story. Posoitive responses from faculty and staf from those who watched the show.

Both of those came in and renovated the spces they wanted to use. We had them on campus for about two months building the set. It was a really good experience. It was really interesting to see how they could transform it. Transofmed one office. Every magazine and book and to be of that time period.
Able to have lunch wioth the cast and crew.
The call college to get permission contact her office. She scouts with them. I have to get a lot of information on the proejct to make sure it’s something the college would approve to be filmed has to be approriate.
If they tell me more about the show I can take them to the right locations.
The chair an office off an old gym for a profesor being demoted. Offices in ther wellness center that were perfect. that were perfect Holland Taylor HYou can tell exactly swhere she is it’s a basment offcice and it looks out onto beau Street. Filmed on weekends during COVID couldn’t be filmed were students were.
We’re a traditionbal college campus so the archtecture is beautiful We’re really good to work with. That’s what we’ve heard back from location managers and producers. They appreciated how well we worked with them. They respected lour needs too.
Both netflix shows not only filmed on campus, but they foudn locations nearby They stayed in washington County for weeks after. It’s an easy trip from Pittsburgh We have a lot of interstiung spaces Luzer worked out really well They buiolt the set basically inside them I do think how we work with them plays a very big part in it.
