High school baseball

Liam Lohr took a shutout into the sixth inning, Jacob Fordyce and Trenton Carter had RBI singles in the first inning and Class 2A Section 1 champions Carmichaels edged Belle Vernon 2-1 in a non-section contest Thursday.

Carmichaels (13-1) did all of its scoring in the bottom of the first inning, then relied on Lohr and reliever Dylan Rohrer to protect the lead. Lohr gave up six hits and two walks but no runs over 5 1/3 innings. Rohrer got the final five outs for a save, though Belle Vernon (5-13) used a two-out RBI single by Tanner Moody in the seventh to cut the deficit in half.

Moody went 4-for-4.

  • Riley Henck hit two doubles and drove in four runs, powering Beth-Center to a 12-2 win in five innings over Charleroi in a non-section game.

Winning pitcher Chase Malanosky and Greg Nopwasky each drove in three runs for B-C (7-9).

  • Ryan Parise had a three-run triple to help Chartiers-Houston take an 11-1 victory over Monessen in a five-inning non-section game.

Ryan Lane and Keegan Kosek added doubles for the Bucs (11-7). Will Bobeck got the win, striking out three and walking one.

Kody Kuhns had a triple and Caleb Amoroso had two hits for Monessen (2-15).

  • Easton Hanko and Austin Marinelli each drove in two runs to push Jefferson-Morgan past Frazier 6-1 in a non-section game.

Winning pitcher Patrick Holaren doubled and scored twice for JM (7-6). Holaren struck out 10 and walked four.

Frazier fell to 4-12.

  • Avonworth scored eight runs in the top of the first inning and went on to a 15-3 non-section win over McGuffey.

High school softball

Skylar Lemansky doubled with two outs in the top of the eighth inning, scoring Samantha Bewick and giving Peters Township a 4-3 win over Upper St. Clair in non-section play Thursday.

PT (7-9) forced an eighth inning when Hannah Donoghue tripled with one out and scored on a bunt by Olivia Donoghue, tying the score at 3-3.

Makenzie Morgan was 3-for-3 and scored two runs for the Indians. Mia Falbo tossed four innings of shutout relief for the win.

  • Sophia Smithnosky went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs, three RBi and was the winning pitcher as South park defated Ringgold 16-1 in four innings in non-section action.

Ally Jones hit a home runs for Mt. Pleasant and the Vikings scored eight runs in the fourth inning.

  • Kaitlyn Molitoris threw a three-hitter as Montour defeated South Fayette 6-2 in a non-section game.
  • West Greene closed out its regular season with a 12-1, 5-inning win at California Wednesday. The Pioneers finished with a 12-3 overall record, and were Class 1A, Section 2 champs with a 10-0 record.

Kiley Meek improved to 9-3 on the year, getting the win with 10 strikeouts and 3 walks. Amaya Owens took the loss.

Katie Lampe went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored, a walk, a stolen base, and an RBI. Kiley Meek got 2 hits, drove in 2 and walked. Lexi Six added 2 hits and 2 RBI.

BreAnn Jackson and Payton Gilbert also had 2 hits apiece, and Gilbert, Jackson, and Marissa Tharp each scored 2 runs each.

Pony baseball

Turturice & Associates downed Fort Cherry, 16-5, in a Founder’s League Pony game Wednesday.

Nate Pettit, Austin Buchanan and Will Callan each had a double for Turturice & Associates.

Bryce Bailes picked up the win and Colt Temple took the loss.

  • Burgettstown disposed of Chambers Insurance 11-1 in a Founder’s League Pony game Wednesday.

Wyatt Stevenson, Cody Caffardo, Noah Kimberland, Ben Klingensmith and Will Steter each had a double for Burgettstown. Matt Bredel went 3-for-3.
