The Arizona Cardinals have made a move to bolster their struggling offense, adding disgruntled receiver Robbie Anderson in a trade with the Carolina Panthers on Monday.
Both teams announced the deal, saying the Panthers would receive “undisclosed draft compensation” in return.
A person familiar with the trade said the Panthers would receive a sixth-round pick in 2024 and a seventh-round pick in 2025. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because some details of the trade haven’t been announced.
The trade could be beneficial to both sides: Anderson’s days in Carolina appeared numbered after he was sent off the field and into the locker room by interim coach Steve Wilks during the second half of the Panthers’ 24-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, following a sideline argument with an assistant coach.
The Cardinals were in the market for an impact receiver, particularly after the team’s leading receiver Marquise Brown suffered a foot injury in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks. Coach Kliff Kingsbury said Brown is expected to miss several weeks.
- The Tennessee Titans and Nashville have their eyes on hosting a Super Bowl, a Final Four, a College Football Playoff game and much more after lining up the last financing for an estimated $2.1 billion domed stadium they hope opens for the start of the 2026 season.
The Titans and Nashville Mayor John Cooper announced the agreement Monday with $760 million in bonds issued by the Metro Sports Authority in a deal that still must be approved by the Metro Nashville City Council.
Combined with $500 million in state bonds, the Titans are getting what is considered to be the largest public commitment of $1.2 billion in public funding for an NFL stadium.
“We’re proposing a new stadium paid for by the team, the state, tourists and spending around the stadium, not by your family,” Cooper said. “Now, using this financial strategy, we are getting a much better stadium and a much better deal.”
The Titans are planning a stadium with a translucent roof and a capacity between 55,000 and 60,000.
- Carson Wentz underwent surgery Monday to repair a broken right ring finger, sidelining the Washington Commanders starting quarterback six games into his tenure with the team.
The Commanders did not provide a specific timeframe of how much time Wentz will miss. Taylor Heinicke is expected to start Sunday when Washington hosts the Green Bay Packers.
In the NHL
Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi is expected to be out for four to six weeks with an upper-body injury.
The team made the announcement Monday before hosting the Los Angeles Kings. Bertuzzi helped Detroit win its first two games, giving the rebuilding team a much-needed solid start.
Bertuzzi had career highs last year with 30 goals and 62 points.
