1970 – The Pittsburgh Pirates’ Danny Murtaugh edges Cincinnati’s Sparky Anderson in voting to win the National League Manager of the Year Award.
1975 – Carlton Fisk breaks up a thrilling contest with a home run in the 12th inning to give the Boston Red Sox a 7-6 victory over the Cincinnati Reds and force a seventh game in the World Series.
1976 – Jim Boyles hooks in a shot from 18 yards for the match’s lone goal and Trinity High School defeats Canon-McMillan 1-0 to give the Hillers the Section 4 soccer championship.
1986 – Doug Snyder drives Bye Countess to victory in the first race at The Meadows. The win is the 334th of the season for Snyder and sets a national record by a driver at one track in one year.
1989 – Houston becomes the first team in major college football history to gain 1,000 yards in a game as Andre Ware passes for six touchdowns in the Cougars’ 95-21 win over SMU. Houston gains 1,021 yards.
2005 – Ryan Geisel rushes for three touchdowns, including two in Mapletown’s 29-point second quarter, as the Maples win their first outright Tri-County South Conference football championship in 37 years with a 37-6 victory over visiting Monessen.
