1968 – Chartiers-Houston runs its record to 8-0 with a 25-0 victory over Avella. Jerry Patterson scores four touchdowns on runs of 3, 1, 35 and 36 yards.

1972 – Four Washington runners, led by Steve Mousetis in fourth place, finish in the top 20 to lead their school to its first WPIAL Class B cross country championship at South Park.

1973 – Burgettstown clinches its first Black Hills Conference football championship, and first WPIAL playoff appearance since 1944, by defeating visiting Bellevue, 7-6. Tim Repole scores on a two-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Mike Maropis kicks the game-winning extra point.

1973 – Charleroi football coach Rab Currie gets career win No. 200 as the Cougars defeat visiting Belle Vernon 36-0. The Cougars’ Dave Quinn rushes for 207 yards.

1988 – Tracy Mertens, the leading scorer in the WPIAL, has the only goal of the game and Peters Township blanks Fox Chapel 1-0 in a WPIAL girls soccer playoff game.

1990 – Washington wins its sixth football conference title in nine years and remains undefeated with a 36-16 victory over Sto-Rox. The Prexies’ Terry Vaughn runs for a touchown, catches a TD pass and recovers a fumble for another score.

1990 – Sonny McClain rushes for 186 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown in the first quarter, and Rich Kelley gains 106 yards and scores twice as Fort Cherry remains unbeaten in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 28-22 win over Brentwood.

1991 – Washington & Jefferson wins its sixth straight Presidents’ Athletic Conference football championship by defeating host Bethany, 27-12. Chris Babirad rushes for 144 yards on 23 carries and scores two touchdowns.

2007 – Josh Snatchko intercepts a Chartiers-Houston screen pass and returns it 42 yards for a second-half touchdown, sparking Fort Cherry to a 24-21 Black Hills Conference win that earns the Rangers a home game in the WPIAL Class A playoffs.

2011 – After trailing 2-0 with less than 22 minutes remaining, defending state champion Peters Township rallies to beat Moon 3-2 in the WPIAL girls soccer playoffs. Madison Creehan scores PT’s first goal in regulation and the game-winner in a shootout.

2011 – Tino Sunseri passes for 419 yards and two touchdowns and runs for another score as Pitt defeats Connecticut 35-20 at Heinz Field.

2014 – Ben Roethlisberger completes 40 of 49 passes for 522 yards and six touchdowns in Pittsburgh’s 51-34 win over Indianapolis. Roethlisberger became the first player in NFL history with two 500-yard passing games — 503 yards vs. Green Bay on Dec. 20, 2009.

2012 – Shai McKenzie sets Washington High School’s single-season rushing record during the Prexies’ 69-6 win over Waynesburg. McKenzie rushes for 323 yards and six touchdowns on 11 carries, giving him 1,895 yards at the end of the regular season.

2012 – Burgettstown plays its first night home football game in two years, a 41-0 loss to keystone Oaks. The light poles at Hill Memorial Stadium had been condemned and taken down because of safety concerns, forcing the Blue Devils to play afternoon home games.
