Wild Things add catcher
The Wild Things announced Monday the signing of catcher J.C. Santini for the 2023 Frontier League season.
Santini is a rookie who played college ball last spring at Northwestern and last summer with the West Virginia Black bears of the MLB Draft League.
Santini also played at St. Mary’s (calif.) before transferring to Northwestern.
At Northwestern, he drove in 14 with two home runs and walked 23 times to the tune of a .357 on-base percentage.
“J.C. comes to us with the reputation of being an excellent receiver and an outstanding thrower. In his years in college he threw out almost 50 percent of would-be base stealers, which is an almost unbelievable number,” said Wild Things manager Tom Vaeth. “I’m really excited to watch this young man compete and watch his transition and development into a professional ballplayer.”
Santini is the third catcher to be added to Washington’s roster for spring training, which begins at the end of April.
