Ray scores 4 in Trojans’ triumph

Darryl Ray scored four goals in California’s 9-0 triumph over Brentwood on Monday in non-section boys soccer action.

Kris Weston, Matt Sawa and Adam Augustine also scored for the Trojans, who had a 7-0 lead at halftime. Caleb Amoroso had a brace in the second half.

Weston had two assists. Sawa, Ray, Tristan Slavick, Adam Augustine and Josh Walters each added a helper.

Alex Merritt made four saves for the shutout.

California opens section play Thursday at Charleroi.

Girls soccer

n Taylor Ramsdell set up McKenna DeUnger for Charleroi’s first two goals, and the Cougars held on for a 3-1 non-section win over Bentworth on Monday.

DeUnger’s first goal came with seven minutes remaining in the first half. Her second tally came with 23 minutes left in the match for a 2-0 advantage.

The Bearcats’ Isabella Moyer scored nine minutes later after taking a pass from Alexandria Jackson and burying the shot.

Bella Carroto added an insurance goal with eight minutes remaining. Rhianna Grogan had the assist.

n Thomas Jefferson jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half and never looked back in an 8-1 section victory over Belle Vernon on Monday.

The Leopards’ Ava Butchki scored in the second half after Sammy Mincone set her up with the pass.

n Ella Miller’s hat trick paced Waynesburg in a 8-1 non-section victory over Monessen in girls soccer play on Monday afternoon.

Miller added an assist to help the Raiders’ cause. Teammate Lake Litwinovich had two goals and an assist.

In other action on Monday, South Fayette blanked West Allagheny, 3-0.

n Dylan Stewart and Logan Crowe had hat tricks in McGuffey’s 7-0 non-section victory over Waynesburg Sunday at Chartiers-Houston.

Stewart’s opened the scoring at 38:58 of the first half and set up Crowe at 36:22 for a 2-0 lead. Stewart added two more in the first half for a 4-0 advantage. Larry Goodman and Nate Klerr assisted on Stewart’s first and third tallies.

Crowe added an unassisted goal and buried a penalty kick for his final tally. Klerr scored on a penalty kick for the Highlanders’ sixth goal.

McGuffey’s Sam Stout made eight saves for the clean sheet.

The Raiders’ Nick Willard stopped 14 shots on target.
