Stewart’s hat trick key in McGuffey victory

Dylan Stewart’s hat trick led McGuffey to a 5-0 victory over Waynesburg in Class 2A Section 3 play Tuesday night.

Stewart scored the Highlanders’ first, second and fifth goals, as McGuffey had a 4-0 halftime advantage.

Jeremiah Butterfield’s tally put the Highlanders in front, 3-0, and Eddie Goodman netted the fourth goal to close the scoring in the first half.

McGuffey improved to 1-0 in section play and 3-0 overall, while the Raiders fell to 0-1 in the section and 1-2 overall.

  • Ringgold scored with six minutes remaining in the first half and added two insurance goals in the second for a 3-0 win at Albert Gallatin on Tuesday in Class 3A Section 3 play.

Jack Brodak scored the only goal the Rams would need, as he tapped in a deflection from Juraj Stasko.

Aidan Weaver’s throw into the box was corralled by Stasko, who buried the shot for a 2-0 lead halfway through the second half. Owen Haywood’s penalty shot beat the Colonial keeper on the right side for a three-goal advantage with 13 minutes remaining.

Aidyn Whaley made one save for the clean sheet.

  • Dylan Klinger and Bryce Large had hat tricks to lead Charleroi to a 14-0 victory over Chartiers-Houston on Tuesday in non-section play.

The Cougars had an 8-0 lead at halftime.

Jake Chambers and Gage Patterson had two goals apiece. Ethan Hartley, Landon Barcus, Mohammed Cisse and Luke Mazon scored.

Barcus and Patterson had three assists. Hartley and Large added an assist.

Nate Mazon made one save for the clean sheet.

The Cougars had 30 shots on target. They converted on 2-of-4 corner kicks.

  • Beth-Center dropped a 3-2 match in Class 1A Section 2 to Greensburg Central Catholic on Tuesday.

Reiner King and Ryder Roule scored for the Bulldogs (0-1, 0-1).

  • Matteo Lesako scored five minutes into the first half and Trinity held on for a 1-0 victory over Connellsville on Tuesday in Class 3A Section 3.

Ryan Torboli had the shutout for the Hillers.

Girls soccer

Canon-McMillan and Peters Township played to a scoreless draw Monday night in section play.

The Indians’ Molly Kubistek had the shutout.
