1972 – Willie Wise and Zelmo Beatty combine for 70 points as the Utah Stars defeat the Pittsburgh Condors in an ABA game played before 1,500 at Uniontown High School.
1978 – Trinity High School’s wrestling team defeats McGuffey 38-14 to give Hillers head coach Joe Shook his 100th career victory.
1985 – Canon-McMillan defeats Trinity, 40-21, to win the Section 7-AAA wrestling championship.
1987 – Karen Donley scores 19 points and Trinity overcomes an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat host Mt. Lebanon 51-49 and win the Section 5-AAAA championship. Donley makes a jump shot with 32 seconds to play that gives the HIllers the lead for good at 50-49.
1988 – Mario Lemieux of the Pittsburgh Penguins scores a record six points – three goals and three assists – to lead the Wales Conference to a 6-5 victory over the Campbell Conference in the NHL All-Star game.
1989 – Ron Skiles resigns as Bentworth’s head football coach after eight seasons and a 53-26 record.
1989 – Darryl Prue scores 22 points and ignites an 11-0 second-half run as West Virginia extends the nation’s longest basketball winning streak to 17 games with an 81-73 victory over Marshall.
1991 – The PIAA Board of Control votes 17-1 to allow Sunday games and practices.
1994 – Derrick Scott scores a basket off an offensive rebound with two seconds left to give California University, ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II, a 98-97 win at Slippery Rock.
2006 – Aaron Gray and Ronald Ramon each score 16 points and No. 14 Pitt edges No. 9 West Virginia 57-53 in a Big East basketball game.
2008 – Charles Murphy makes a running 40-foot shot as time expires to give Canon-McMillan a 46-44 victory over Shaler in a WPIAL Class AAAA basketball playoff game at North Allegheny.
2001 – Josh Valentic scores 31 points and Trinity defeats visiting Ringgold 67-47 to move the Hillers into a tie for third place in Section 5-AAA and eliminate Washington from playoff contention.
2012 – Canon-McMillan’s wrestling team runs its record to 23-0 with a 53-10 thumping of Parkland in the PIAA Class AAA Team Tournament in Hershey.
2013 – Brendon Price wins a 4-3 decision over Central Dauphin’s Zach Elvin in the final bout, giving Canon-McMillan a 34-31 come-from-behind victory and the PIAA Class AAA wrestling team tournament title. It’s Canon-McMillan’s second state championship.
