1965 – Frank Pilsitz scores 27 points and California State College’s basketball team sets a school single-game scoring record with a 124-88 win over visiting Lock Haven.
1972 – The longest winning streak in major professional sports is snapped when the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Los Angeles Lakers, 120-104. The Lakers had won 33 straight, but Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 39 points give Los Angeles its first loss since Oct. 31.
1980 – Trinity High School’s Elaine Sobansky scores 25 points, including the 1,000th of her career, as the Hillers defeat Baldwin, 71-50, and improve their record to 11-1.
1982 – Joe Montana’s third touchdown pass of the game, a 6-yarder to Dwight Clark, with 51 seconds remaining, lifts the San Francisco 49ers to 28-27 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC title game.
1985 – Harold Hamlin scores 28 points as Waynesburg defeats Geneva 80-72 in the Yellow Jackets’ first basketball game in their new College Gym.
1988 – Mario Lemieux scores four goals but they aren’t enough as the Pittsburgh Penguins lose at the Detroit Red Wings, 7-5.
1989 – Darrin Walls scores 22 points, including the 2,000th of his career, as the Yellow Jackets defeat Houghton, 103-79.
1989 – Carnegie Mellon University announces it will leave the Presidents’ Athletic Conference following the 1989-90 school year.
1991 – In the same game, Bobbie Jo Graham and Renee Harris become the first two Waynesburg College women’s basketball players to score 1,000 career points but the Yellow Jackets lose to visiting John Carroll 69-67.
1992 – Chris Cook scores 33 points, and teammate Dave Goodwin has 27 points and 19 rebounds, as West Greene improves its record to 11-3 with an 88-83 overtime win at Carmichaels in Section 19-A. Chad Lechner scores 32 points for Carmichaels.
2017 – Baylor, playing as the No. 1 team for the first time in school history, loses to No. 10 West Virginia 89-68.
2012 – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds announce plans to built a 3,500-seat multi-sport stadium to serve as the United Soccer League team’s home on Pittsburgh’s South Side.
