1955 – Washington High School sets its single-game basketball scoring record with a 101-27 victory over Trinity. The Little Presidents outscore the Hillers 59-9 in the second half.
1982 – California State’s men’s basketball team avenges an earlier 31-point loss by upsetting the District of Columbia, ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division II, 55-54, at Hamer Hall. Bruce Gwin scores 15 points to lead Cal. UDC’s Earl Jones, a future first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Lakers, is held to 11 points.
1986 – Trinity High School’s wrestling team takes apart Hempfield one by one and gives head coach John Abajace his 100th career victory with a 49-0 win.
1988 – Pitt’s Jerome Lane shatters a backboard with a slam dunk at the end of a fast-break during the Panthers’ 90-56 victory over visiting Providence in a Big East basketball game.
1989 – The California University women’s basketball team outlasts Shippensburg 88-82 in double overtime. The Vulcans’ Tammy McIntire makes two free throws to force overtime and a short jumper with two seconds remaining to send the game to the second overtime. McIntire finishes with 30 points and nine rebounds.
2010 – Megan Sowers scores 25 points, including her 1,000th career point, in Beth-Center’s 77-48 victory over Brownsville and becomes the Bulldogs’ all-time scoring leader with 1,288 points. Sowers breaks the school record set in 1983 by Diane Hess. Sowers had a triple-double in the game with 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
2011 – Ringgold senior guard Andrew Stine makes nine three-point field goals and scores 42 points as the Rams rout visiting Waynesburg 81-35 in Section 5-AAA.
2012 – Canon-McMillan wins its 11th consecutive wrestling section title by defeating Chartiers Valley 73-0 to garner the Class 3A Section 4 championship.
2012 – Jefferson-Morgan’s seniors win eight of 10 bouts as the Rockets defeat Bentworth 45-22 to win the Class 2A Section 2 title at Derry.
