1936 – Washington boxer Sammy Angott wins a six-round decision over previously undefeated Victor Valle in the Bronx.
1971 – The University of Pittsburgh announces its plan to demolish 62-year-old Forbes Field, which it purchased in 1958 as a site for its new law school and social sciences center.
1972 – Baltimore Colts owner Carroll Rosenbloom trades his franchise to Robert Irsay for the Los Angeles Rams.
1985 – Kelvin Bryant’s seven-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter gives the Philadelphia Stars a 28-24 victory over the Oakland Invaders in the United States Football League championship game. It’s the final game played by the three-year-old spring football league.
1986 – Mickey Hornack, a 1964 Charleroi High School graduate, is named boys basketball coach at his alma mater. Hornack replaces Phil Pergola, who was hired by Ringgold.
1998 – The Pittsburgh Steelers release five-time pro Bowl linebacker Greg Lloyd.
1999 – The Highlands Springs team of Pete Dellovade, Jason Lis, Jim Gordon, Jack Conn, Leroy Lilley and Larry Lis Sr., takes advantage of a fast start to beat Greene County Country Club and win the Pavella Cup match play championship at Nemacolin Country Club.
2002 – Left-handed pitcher Jason Hickman throws the first no-hitter in Wild Things history in a 5-1 Washington win at Kalamazoo. The Kings’ run scores on an error, wild pitch and two groundouts. It’s the eighth no-hitter in Frontier League history.
