1969 – Ed McGlumphy, former basketball and tennis player at Washington & Jefferson, is selected as head basketball coach at Charleroi High School.

1984 – Terry Bradshaw, who quarterbacked the Pittsburgh Steelers to four Super Bowl victories, announces his retirement, the result of an elbow injury that would not respond to treatment.

1989 – Washington High School hires Matt Midea as its wrestling coach, replacing Bill Solominsky, who retired after 10 seasons. It is only the fourth coaching change for Washington’s wrestling program in 45 years.

2005 – Lance Armstrong wins the Tour de France for the seventh consecutive time.
