1951 – Washington High School’s Bill Ruschel sets a meet record in the high jump, clearing 5-11 5/8, at the Washington Invitational Track Meet.

1954 – Jim Ross set the meet record with a throw of 137-6 1/2 in the discus to lead Donora to the team title at the Mon Valley track meet in Brownsville. The Dragons’ mile relay team also sets a meet mark with a time of 3:37.

1964 – Jefferson-Morgan pitcher Jim Makiel throws a no-hitter and scores the game’s only run in the Rockets’ 1-0 victory over Carmichaels. Makiel strikes out 13 and walks four.

1968 – Waynesburg High School remains undefeated in Section 16 when Karl King pitches a no-hitter in the Raiders’ 5-0 victory over Beth-Center. King strikes out seven and walks one.

1968 – The Pittsburgh Pipers build a 21-point lead in the third quarter, then hold off a New Orleans rally and defeat the Buccaneers, 122-113, in Game 7 of the American Basketball Association championship series before more than 11,000 at the Civic Arena. Charlie Williams scores 35 points and Connie Hawkins has 29 for the Pipers.

1976 – California State College freshman pitcher Dave Lostetler throws a no-hitter against West Liberty but the Vulcans lose the game, 1-0, as they commit four errors.

1985 – Ron Moore breaks the Washington High School record in the high jump, clearing 6-8 1/4 to win the competition at the Baldwin Invitational.

1991 – Houston’s Jeff Bagwell hits an upper-deck homer run off the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Bob Kipper at Three Rivers Stadium as the Astros win 6-4.

1999 – Martin Straka scores one goal and assists on two others as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeat the New Jersey Devils 4-2 in Game 7 of an opening round playoff series.

2000 – After 130 shots, 159 faceoffs and seven intermissions, Philadelphia’s Keith Primeau beats Ron Tugnett for a goal to give the Flyers a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the longest NHL playoff game since 1933. The game ends at 2:35 a.m., exactly seven hours after it began.

2008 – Marian Hossa scores his second goal of the game 7:10 into overtime as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeat the New York Rangers 3-2 and advance to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in seven years.

2012 – The Stan “The Man” Musial Bridge in Donora is dedicated.
