Spencer Petrucci scored four touchdowns, including three in the second quarter, as California rolled to an impressive 44-6 victory over Jeannette in the first round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs.

California (10-1), the No. 6 seed, remains undefeated against Class A competition. The Trojans advance to the quarterfinals next weekend against third-seeded Bishop Canevin.

Jake Layhue gave California 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a six-yard touchdown run.

The Trojans then pulled away in the second quarter. Petrucci had TD runs covering 3, 44 and 10 yards as the Trojans opned up a 28-0 lead at halftime.

After Jeannette (7-4) scored on a 43-yard pass from Payton Molter to Noah Sanders to open the second-half scoring, it was all California from that point.

Petrucci retuned the ensuing kickoff 67 yards for a touchdown and Layhue scored for the second time, on a seven-yard jaunt late in the third quarter to close the scoring.

Petrucci rushed for 181 yards on 20 carries and Layhue added 145 on 18 attempts.

Greensburg CC 41, West Greene 22

Tyree Turner threw two touchdown passes to Samir Crosby and also ran for a score, leading Greensburg Central Catholic to a 41-22 victory over West Greene in a WPIAL Class A first-round playoff game at Plum High School.

Turner threw TD passes of 52 and 60 yards to Crosby and connecte4d with Aidan Allison on a 79-yard scoring pass. Turner also had a 26-yard touchdown run.

Crosby opened the scoring with a nine-yard TD run in the first quarter. The Centurions (8-3) led 6-0 after one quarter, 20-0 at halftime and 27-0 early in the third quarter.

West Greene (8-3) did all of its scoring in the second half, getting three touchdowns from Billy Whitlatch, including one on special teams. Whitlatch had TD runs of one and 10 yards. He also took a lateral from Seth Burns on a kickoff and raced 98 yards for another score.

Imani Christian 52, Waynesburg 14

Imani Christian, after leading by only 10 at halftime, scored 30 points in the third quarter and went on to a 52-14 victory over Waynebsurg in a WPIAL Class 2A first-round playoff game at Graham Field in Wilkinsburg.

Waynesburg’s touchdowns came on a three-yard pass from jacob Stephenson to Zach Joblits in the second quarter and an 18-yard Stephenson pass to Colby pauley in the fourth quarter.
