Jahvon Woods scored two touchdowns and Washington’s defense shut down Greensburg Central Catholic’s ground game in a 31-7 victory over the Centurions in a non-conference game.
Woods scored on a one-yard plunge in the second quarter, helping undefeated Washington (4-0) to an 18-0 halftime lead. Percy Dudley opened the scoring with a nine-yard TD scamper in the first quarter. Ruben Gordon caught an 18-yard scoring pass from Tristan Reed in the second quarter.
A 16-yard touchdown pass from Tyree Turner to Samir Crosby pulled GCC (2-2) to within 18-7 in the fourth quarter. However, Zxavian Willis returned the enusing kickoff 90 yards for a game-clinching touchdown.
Woods capped the scoring with his second TD, a three-yard run.
The Prexies’ defense held GCC to only nine first downs and 10 rushing yards.
Wash High completed 17 of 22 passes for 275 yards. The Prexies finsihed with 417 totals yards to GCC’s 209.
Fort Cherry 51, Chartiers-Houston 0
Undefeated Fort Cherry scored five touchdowns in the first quarter and cruised to a 51-0 victory over winless Chartiers-Houston in the Class A Black Hills Conference opener.
The Rangers (1-0, 4-0) led 21-0 after running only three offensive plays. Shane Cornali opened the scoring by taking a short pass from Matt Sieg 41 yards for a TD only 25 seconds into the game. Cornali finished with four receptions for 101 yards.
Sieg then returned a punt 81 yards to make it 14-0. On the Rangers’ next offensive snap, Sieg bolted 83 yards up the middle for his second touchdown. The Rangers led 21-0 after running only three offensive plays.
Ethan Faletto had a pair of TD runs in the first half, covering 10 and seven yards. Nathan Heirendt had a one-yard TD plunge and the Rangers added a safety on a bad snap from center on a punt as the first half ended 44-0.
The only touchdown of the second half was a 60-yard jaunt by Ethan Salvitti in the third quarter.
Fort Cherry finished with 284 rushing yards and 424 total yards.
Chartiers-Houston was held to 53 totals yards and minus-9 on the ground.
Trinity 41, Connellsville 40
Jonah Williamson had a hand in all of Trinity’s scores in the Hillers’ 41-40 victory over Connellsville in Big Seven Conference play.
Williamson rushed for 233 yards on 23 carries and was 12-of-14 for 234 yards.
He scored on runs of 5, 12 and 32 yards. Williamson threw two touchdown passes to Luke Lacock and one to Dante DeRubbo. Lacock caught six passes for 156 yards.
Belle Vernon 21, Penn-Trafford 0
Jake Gedekoh’s 33-yard interception return for a touchdown and a stout defense led Belle Vernon to a 21-0 non-conference victory at Penn-Trafford.
The Leopards (3-0) opened the scoring in the first quarter on Braden Laux’s 1-yard quarterback sneak with 5:14 remaining.
Gedekoh’s score came with 6:47 left in the third quarter. Quinton Martin added a 12-yard touchdown run at 1:58 of the third and Laux ran in the two-point conversion.
Martin gained 107 yards on 17 carries. He also had an interception.
Bentworth 28, Monessen 0
Vitali Daniels scored three touchdowns in Bentworth’s 28-0 victory at Monessen in Tri-County South Conference play.
Daniels, who gained 83 yards on 17 carries, scored on runs of 3, 9 and 7. Teammate Ben Hays scored from 1-yard out with five seconds left in the first half. Hays rushed for 81 yards on 15 attempts.
The Bearcats improved to 1-0 in conference play and 2-2 overall. The Greyhounds are 0-1 in TCS play and 1-3 overall.
West Greene 47, Carmichaels 14
Johnny Lampe scored four touchdowns and forced a fumble that resulted in a score in West Greene’s 47-14 victory over Carmichaels in Tri-County South Conference play.
The Pioneers’ victory came with a price, as senior running back Colin Brady was taken off the field after being tackled near the Mikes’ sideline with 10:42 left in the third quarter. There were no further details at press time other than Brady was taken to a nearby hospital.
Prior to his injury, Brady had rushed for 140 yards on 12 carries.
West Greene (1-0, 3-1) opened the scoring on Billy Whitlatch’s 18-yard run with 5:43 left in the first quarter. Whitlatch gained 102 yards on 12 attempts.
Carmichaels (0-1, 1-3) cut the deficit to 7-6 on A.J. Donaldson’s eight-yard run nine seconds into the second quarter.
The Pioneers’ Cooper Chambers caught touchdown passes of 38 and 27 yards from Lane Allison.
The Mikes’ Will Murray scored on a 1-yard run.
Beth-Center 20, Mapletown 6
Beth-Center did all of its scoring in the second half and picked up its first win of the season in the Class A Tri-County South Conference opener, beating Mapletown 20-6.
Beth-Center (0-1, 0-3) trailed 6-0 at halftime as Evan Griffin scored on a 30-yard run in the second quarter for Mapletown (0-1, 2-2).
For the second consecutive week, Mapletown was shut out in the second half. That opened the door for B-C as Ethan Varesko scored on TD runs of one and three yards, the latter in the final minute of the third quarter, putting the Bulldogs in front, 12-6.
Jonah Sussan capped the scoring with a two-yard plunge with 2:20 remaining and Varesko added the conversion run.
Varesko rushed for 127 yards on 21 carries.
Griffin had 129 yards on 13 attempts.
West Mifflin 48, Ringgold 8
Rich Fix did a little of everything for West Mifflin in the Titans’ 48-8 win over Ringgold.
Fix opened the scoring with a 57-yard run, and later in the first half he returned a punt 64 yards for a score.
Fix also had a big night catching the football as he had a pair of 19-yard TD receptions from Jo Fleming.
The lone TD for Ringgold (0-4) came in the fourth quarter on a 44-yard run.

California was a 48-21 winner over Jefferson-Morgan at Parker Field in the Class A Tri-County South Conference. No game details were made available by press time.
