1911 – The New York Highlanders of the American League steal 15 bases – including four by Harold “Birdie” Cree, a native of Khedive in Greene County – during an 18-12 victory over the St. Louis Browns.

1944 – Bill DeWitt runs for three touchdowns as Jefferson High School wins its 34th football game in a row, 18-6, over East Pike Run.

1951 – Norm Van Brocklin of Los Angeles passes for an NFL-record 554 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Rams to a 54-14 rout of the New York Yankees. Elroy Hirsch catches four of the touchdown passes.

1968 – A 36-yard touchdown pass from Jeff Petrucci to Pete Gialames with 1:24 remaining and Paul Zolak’s extra-point kick give California State a 27-26 win over visiting Lock Haven in the PSAC opener for the Vulcans.

1974 – Art Green catches a 45-yard touchdown pass from Kelly Bird with 33 seconds remaining as Waynesburg College defeats host Westminster, 16-14.

1975 – O.J. Simpson becomes the first player to rush for 200 yards in a game at Three Rivers Stadium as he gains 227 in the Buffalo Bills’ 30-21 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

1976 – Muhammad Ali wins a unanimous 15-round decision over Ken Norton at Yankee Stadium to retain his world heavyweight title.

1991 – Washington & Jefferson forges a 27-0 halftime lead and holds off a second-half rally by Waynesburg to defeat the host Yellow Jackets, 33-19. The Presidents’ Chris Babirad, who rushes for 275 yards on 30 carries, seals the win with a 30-yard touchdown run with 11 seconds remaining.

2012 – Washington’s Shai McKenzie scoops up a Jeannette punt that was deflected by Daron Whitaker and returns it 47 yards down the sideline for a touchdown with 19 seconds remaining, giving the Prexies an improbable 18-15 win in a battle of unbeaten teams.

2012 – Cincinnati’s Homer Bailey throws a no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.

2013 – Neil Walker hits two of Pittsburgh’s six home runs and the Pirates clinch home-field advantage for the National League wild card playoff game by beating the Cincinnati Reds, 8-3.
