Trinity, Canon-Mac and PT produce pair of champs at Sectionals
Three local schools had a pair of champions in Saturday’s WPIAL Class 3A Southern Sectional at South Fayette.
Nicholas McGarrity (107 pounds) and Darius McMillon (152) won a title for Peters Township.
Dominick Cornali (127) and Thomas Allison (139) were winners for Trinity.
Collier Hartman (133) and Brayden Collins (215) were champions for Canon-McMillan.
McGarrity secured a 6-3 decision over West Allegheny’s Michael Johnson, while McMillon won a 4-1 decision over Mt. Lebanon’s Cole Gibbons.
Canali earned a 9-0 major decision over Mt. Lebanon’s Evan Sala and Allison won 3-2 in an ultimate tiebreaker over South Fayette’s Talan Mizenko.
Hartman beat Moon’s Cael Yanek in a 7-5 decision and Collins had a 6-1 decision over Bethel Park’s Hunter Goelz.
Waynesburg’s Jake Stephenson defeated Canon-McMillan’s Bryce Collins in a 4-1 decision in the 189-pound final.
Trinity’s Parker Jennings dropped a 9-4 decision against West Allegheny’s Lucas Carson in the 114 pound final.
Canon-McMillan’s Giono Gardner was the runner up at 121, losing a 14-8 decision to West Allegheny’s Thomas Bencho.
Waynesburg’s Brock Evans was pinned at 3:02 by Moon’s Liam Costa in the 160-pound championship.
The WPIAL Class 3A individual finals begin Friday at Canon-McMillan.
Eastern Sectional:
Belle Vernon’s Elijah Brown defeated Ringgold’s Jake Conroy by tech. fall, 15-0, to win the 215 pound title at the WPIAL Class 3A Eastern Sectional Saturday at Norwin.
Brown secured the victory in the second period.
Ringgold’s Ethan Tolliver lost a 11-0 major decision to Franklin Regional’s Mike Ruane in the 127 pound final, giving the Rams two runners-up on the day.
In the 139 pound championship, Belle Vernon’s Deydon Soto lost via tech. fall, 17-1, to Connellsville’s Kai Vielma.
