LETTER: State the facts, please

1 min read

In Monday’s newspaper, Gary Franks’ op-ed stated, “The fact that (Joe) Biden refused to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin on ending the Ukrainian-Russian war and (Donald) Trump merely picked up the phone and got peace talk meetings scheduled in a matter of days is also indicative of how bad Biden was.” That is not factual.

Joe Biden did, in fact, speak with Putin. As reported on CNN, attempts were made to meet in person, but Putin refused. He would only speak by phone on Dec. 30, 2021, after the Dec. 7 video conference between Biden and Putin that ended with a pledge to restart diplomatic discussions – with no indication that Russia was preparing to de-escalate.

I have my own opinion of Putin’s and Trump’s plan of action, but I will spare the public my rambling. We all have opinions. I just want to share kindness.

To Mr. Franks and others sharing “facts”: Please make sure they are facts. I did appreciate his thoughts, however.
