Teen agrees to plead guilty in shooting of woman, toddler

A Claysville man will testify against an alleged conspirator in a Greene County shooting that wounded a woman and 2-year-old last year.
In a court hearing on Monday, prosecutors said Darius Wolfe, 19, will plead guilty in November, one month after Jeremy Currey, 20, of Washington is scheduled to go to trial in the July 2024 shooting.
Wolfe made a videotaped statement to police, which has also been provided to Currey’s attorneys, said Adam Yarussi, who is representing Wolfe.
Both men appeared for hearings before Greene County Judge Lou Dayich, being shuffled in and out of the courtroom to avoid putting them in the same space.
Wolfe is charged with five counts of attempted homicide, as well as a felony charge of prohibited possession of a firearm.
He allegedly fired several shots at Mountainview Gardens in Franklin Township after a dispute arose between Currey and the woman who was shot, District Attorney Brianna Vanata said during their joint preliminary hearing last year.
Currey and Wolfe both face conspiracy charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, along with multiple misdemeanor charges.
The woman had lost vision in her left eye, where she was shot, and needed additional medical procedures, Vanata said last year. A 2-year-old child who was struck in the thigh had recovered, police said.
Jury selection had been scheduled in May before being postponed.
A September date for the trial was ruled out due to Currey’s attorney already being scheduled for a murder trial in Morgantown. Dayich scheduled jury selection for Oct. 2 in advance of a one-day trial to take place Oct. 15.
Wolfe is scheduled for a plea court hearing on Nov. 18.
