The closure of South Main Street in Washington has been extended by another week as crews work to relocate a waterline below the roadway.

The state Department of Transportation announced Thursday that the road closure between East Prospect and Park avenues in the city, which began Sept. 8 and was supposed to reopen to traffic after two weeks, will now continue until Sept. 26. After that time, there will be single-lane closures in the area until Oct. 24.

Crews are relocating a Pennsylvania American Water pipeline ahead of the major construction project at the intersection to rebuild the Catfish Creek box culvert bridge scheduled to begin in the spring.
