49ers owner arrested
San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was arrested over the weekend in Ohio and pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. York was arrested in East Palestine, Ohio, and was released after posting a $5,000 bond. He was sentenced to one day in jail for both offenses to be served concurrently and was credited with one day served when he pleaded no contest. He also was fined $1,150. Court records show that York was initially charged with engaging in prostitution but prosecutors amended that to disorderly conduct. York was charged with possessing criminal tools for using his phone to respond to an undercover online prostitution advertisement, according to prosecutors.
Football
The Houston Texans acquired wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots on Monday.
Boutte confirmed the deal on social media before either team announced it. According to multiple reports, Houston sent safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round draft pick to the Patriots.
The move comes after No. 2 receiver Jayden Higgins tore an ACL in a joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders Tuesday.
Boutte, a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, had 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns last season.
The Patriots had a logjam at the position after trading for receiver A.J. Brown in June and signing Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $68 million contract in March.
The Texans also signed veteran receivers Zay Jones and Sterling Shepard this weekend as they look to fill the void left by Higgins’ injury.
Higgins, who was expected to start alongside star Nico Collins, had 41 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie last year.
Baseball
General manager Dana Brown and the Houston Astros have mutually agreed to part ways. The team announced the move Monday when it was tied for first place in the AL West. Brown’s contract was set to expire at the end of the season. Senior adviser Jeff Bagwell and assistant general managers Charles Cook, Gavin Dickey and Connor Huff will take over Brown’s responsibilities while team owner Jim Crane will oversee baseball operations during the transition. The move comes after the Astros went 3-6 on a homestand that ended Sunday to fall into a tie with the Texas Rangers for the AL West lead.
Auto racing
Austin Hill will drive the No. 33 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Cup Series for Richard Childress Racing beginning next season. The team announced the news on Monday. Hill has run 15 Cup races this season but hasn’t secured a top 10 finish. However, he has 16 wins over the past five seasons in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, qualifying for the Chase each year. Team CEO and chairman Richard Childress praised Hill’s growth and work ethic. Hill expressed gratitude for the opportunity.
College football
Former Mississippi tight end Dae’Quan Wright is heading to LSU if he clears waivers after being released by the Cleveland Browns, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus. Wright signed with the Philadelphia Eagles following the NFL draft and joined the Browns after he was released on Aug. 11. Wright played two seasons for LSU coach Lane Kiffin in 2024 and 2025. He caught 39 passes for 635 yards and five touchdowns for the Rebels last season. If he joins LSU, Wright would be the first known player to return to college after playing in the NFL
