Carmichaels win in Perkins’ debut
LEECHBURG – Stephen Lewis scored on a 28-yard run in the fourth quarter that secured a 20-13 win for Carmichaels at Leechburg on Friday night.
The Mikes gave new head coach Ken Perkins his first victory.
The game was close throughout as Carmichaels led 8-7 at halftime and 14-13 after three quarters.
The Mikes kept Leechburg out of the end zone in the decisive fourth quarter.
Leechburg opened the scoring in the second quarter on a three-yard run by Jaxson Vargo, but Carmichaels with a K.C. Shook broke off an 80-yard touchdown run and Ryder Krieg caught a two-point conversion pass from Peyton Morecraft.
Vargo threw a 10-yard TD pass to Louie Vargo that put Leechburg back in front 13-8 in the third quarter, but Carmichaels won with the game’s final two scores. A 10-yard TD run by Shook put the Mikes back in front, 14-13.
Shook had a big game, rushing for 208 yards on 20 carries and Job Smith added 111 yards on six attempts.
