High School Basketball: Wash High knocks out McGuffey
High School Basketball
Tristan Reed had a game-high 16 points as Washington eliminated McGuffey from playoff contention with a 44-37 win in a Class 3A Section 2 boys basketball game Saturday afternoon.
The Highlanders (3-7, 11-11) led by three at halftime, but were outscored 15-6 in the fourth quarter.
Vincent Johnson added 11 points for the Prexies (5-5, 11-10). Kolt McGowan scored 15 for McGuffey.
Burgettstown 79, Mapletown 19: Lance Duran poured in 27 points as Burgettstown (3-11, 6-16) cruised to a 79-19 win against Mapletown (0-14, 0-22) in Class 2A Section 3.
Cooper Lucas added 11 points for the Blue Devils, who led 26-4 at the end of the first quarter. Colton Taylor scored six points for the Maples.
South Fayette 56, Obama Academy 46: Tyson Wright paced three South Fayette players in double figures with 14 points in a 56-46 victory at Obama Academy.
Owen Keener added 13 points for the Lions (10-11) and Dylan Monz finished with 12 points.
Yough 56, Waynesburg 52: Yough outscored Waynesburg, 17-12, in the fourth quarter to rally for a 56-52 win in a nonsection game.
Tyler Smith led three Cougars (3-18) in double figures with 20 points.
Cole Headlee had a game-high 25 points for Waynesburg (6-15) and Dane Woods scored 15.
GIRLS RESULTS
South Fayette 69, Berlin Brothersvalley 40: Ryan Oldaker scored a game-high 27 points and South Fayette improved to 21-1 with a 69-49 win against Berlin Brothersvalley in the Bash at North Allegheny.
Haylie Lamonde finished with 18 points for the Lions, who led 36-20 at halftime.
Geibel Catholic 67, Avella 13: Emma Larkin poured in 31 points to help Geibel Catholic earn a 67-13 win at Avella (1-13, 4-18) in a Class A Section 2 game.
Mallory Clemmer had 21 points for the Gators (13-1, 20-1). Emily Day led Avella with nine points.
