Solomon wins in Fargo
A week after winning gold at the Pan-American games, Canon-McMillan’s Marlee Solomon was victorious again on Saturday.
Solomon, who will be a senior at Canon-McMillan, won the 120-pound junior freestyle girls wrestling championship in Fargo, N.D.
She defeated Hailey Delgado of Texas via a 4-0 decision in the championship match to secure her first national title in Fargo.
An 8-3 decision over Aubree Gutierrez in the semifinals earned Solomon a place in the final.
Solomon had a pair of pins and tech. falls in the early rounds of the tournament.
MMA
Conor McGregor confirmed he suffered a torn right ACL in his shortened UFC 329 fight against Max Holloway.
McGregor said he also suffered meniscus damage in the fight on July 11 that lasted 1:09, comparing it to an injury he suffered in the opposite leg against Holloway in 2013.
“Update: It was acl and meniscus,” McGregor wrote in a post on X Sunday. “It is the same injury as the first Holloway fight, only this time the opposite leg. Quite shocking.”
McGregor’s return to the octagon for the first time in five years came to an abrupt end when he landed awkwardly trying to land a kick in the opening seconds against Holloway. The 38-year-old tried to continue, but the fight was called when he fell to the canvas twice more.
McGregor had surgery last week and said he is walking without crutches. He is hopeful of returning to the octagon in 2027.
“I returned to competition within 9 months to fight Diego Brandao back then,” he wrote. “With today’s regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods it is well within my realm to return by next summer.”
Baseball
Right-hander Kyle Bradish and the Baltimore Orioles have agreed to a $90 million, five-year contract for 2027-31. Bradish has a $3.55 million salary this year after beating the team in arbitration. The new deal covers what would have been Bradish’s final two years of arbitration eligibility under the rules of the current labor contract. The 29-year-old is 6-9 with a 3.61 ERA in 19 starts this year, his first full season back from Tommy John surgery in 2024.

Chicago Blackhawks star Connor Bedard has agreed to a $75 million, five-year contract, completing a major offseason goal for the team. The rebuilding Blackhawks announced the deal. Bedard was eligible for restricted free agency, but that never turned into an issue for the center or the organization. Bedard had said repeatedly how much he likes playing in Chicago and expressed confidence in the direction of the team. And Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said all along that the deal would get done. Bedard set career highs with 30 goals and 45 assists in 69 games this season.
Basketball
Oklahoma City is trading starting forward and defensive standout Lu Dort to Atlanta as part of a three-team deal that also has the Hawks sending former No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher to Dallas, a person with knowledge of the agreement said Sunday. Atlanta also will receive Ryan Nembhard from Dallas and the Thunder will be getting three heavily protected second-round draft picks, said the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal has yet to receive the necessary approvals from the NBA.
