Trinity grinds out road win at Canon-McMillan

It appears that Trinity’s Big Six conference title last year was indeed no fluke.
The Hillers scored a pulsating 29-24 win over Canon-McMillan Friday night at AHN Field in Canonsburg.
Trinity (2-0) raced out to a 17-0 lead in the first half and ballooned its lead to 29-10 before the Big Macs (1-1) made a late furious push in an attempt to steal the game late. But a 32 yard Owen Samogala pass to Chase Kostelnik on third and long with less than three minutes remaining helped clinch the game.
Owen Gardner scored twice and rushed for 96 yards on 13 carries. Samogala completed 7 of 10 passes for 157 yards.
A major turning point happened in the third quarter when Canon-McMillan quarterback Ty Jansma fumbled when attempting to sneak across the goal line, which Trinity recovered at the 1.
The Hillers converted the turnover into points when Daniel Glass scored on a 43 yard rip up the middle.
Washington 55, South Allegheny 20
Trenton Grooms and Jamarie Walker had two touchdowns apiece and JaQuay Heyman and Ameer Nelson scored once as Wash High showed off its array of weapons in a 55-20 win over South Allegheny. Prexies quarterback Travon Moye threw for 142 yards and three touchdown passes.
Wash High outscored South Allegheny, 25-6, in the second quarter to take a 32-12 lead into the locker room.
Walker finished with 166 yards rushing and Heyman had 117 yards on the ground.
Fort Cherry 43, California 8
In a commanding 43-8 win over California, Eli Salvini rushed for 196 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.
More often than not, those numbers are more than good enough to be the night’s star.
But Ryan Huey ran for four touchdowns, picking up 169 yards on 16 carries and adding an interception for good measure.
Nathan Wolfe had 115 yards receiving on seven catches and Colin Sieg passed for 121 yards.
Brandon Meier scored on a 67-yard for California’s lone touchdown.
Knoch 21, McGuffey 20
Max Wiley’s 1-yard plunge into the end zone with 1:50 remaining in regulation and an extra point by Whitaker Schwalm proved to be the difference as Knoch edged McGuffey, 21-20.
Prior to the Wiley touchdown, Denny Furmanek scored on a 98 yard run in the fourth quarter and a successful two-point conversion gave McGuffey a 20-14 lead.
Caleb Simons had a pair of touchdown runs for McGuffey (1-1). One from 59 yards in the first quarter and another from two yards out.
Wiley connected on a 75-yard bomb to Roman DeFelice for the Knights (2-0) to open the scoring and Ethan Rouleau punched one in from two yards out in the second quarter, which gave Knoch a 14-6 lead at halftime.
Simons finished with 146 yards rushing and Furmanek had 141 yards on the ground.
Belle Vernon 35, OLSH 0
David Bergstedt had 11 tackles and Lucca Ghilani, Cam Black and Javan Durant had an interception each for a Belle Vernon defense that pitched a shutout in a 35-0 win over Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.
Chace Petrosky had three rushing touchdowns for the Leopards.
He scored from two yards in the first quarter, had a seven yard touchdown in the third and added a 27 yard score in the fourth.
Belle Vernon led 7-0 and scored a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to put the game away.
Jace Gedekoh ran in a two-yard touchdown in the third and Vander Raczkowski added a five-yard score in the fourth.
Ringgold 53, Valley 7
Nick Statsko rushed for 120 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Ringgold (1-1) rolled to a 53-7 win at Valley (0-2).
Demetri Lowe got the scoring started with a 54-yard interception return.
Then Stasko scored back-to-back touchdowns from 10 and 1 yards and Dezire Satterfield added an 18-yard run to make it 28-0
William Cameron booted a 31-yard field goal to give Ringgold a 31-7 lead at halftime.
Crosby Dague had a pair of touchdown runs in the second half on runs of 8 and 63 yards. Ringgold also recorded a safety and Dennis Hawkins threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Ashton Mincin.
Hawkins finished with 158 yards passing, completing 7 of 17 attempts.
Charleroi 47, Carlynton 12
Elijah Allah scored three touchdowns, one on an interception return, and Charleroi picked up its first win with a 47-12 thumping of Carlynton (0-2).
Allah scored on runs of four and seven yards that put Charleroi (1-1) on top 15-6. He capped the scoring in the fourth quarter when he returned an interception 62 yards to the end zone. Christian Wiley also returned an interception for a score.
Max Voystek and Jesse McMaster had touchdowns runs of six and 27 yards, respectively, for Charleroi and Lucas Mazon booted a 35-yard field goal.
West Greene 50, Brownsville 6
West Greene went scoreless in the first five quarters of the season.
But boy did the Pioneers make up for it in their sixth.
West Greene (1-1) erupted for 44 points in the second quarter and went on to beat Brownsville 50-6.
Quarterback Joel Rizor rushed for 208 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns, Bret Scott added three scores and Gavin Roberts got the outburst started for West Greene by returning a punt 51 yards for a touchdown.
Burgettstown 32, Avella 0
Blake Neal passed for two touchdowns and added a TD plunge, Brady Rightweiser had a pair of scores and Burgettstown blanked host Avella 32-0.
Burgettstown (2-0) led 6-0 after one quarter and broke open the game with a 20-point second quarter.
Rightweiser opened the scoring with a six-yard touchdown run less than four minutes into the game.
Neal scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter to give the Blue Devils a double-digit lead, then hooked up with Dom Stevenson on an 80-yard touchdown pass that made the score 18-0.
Rightweiser’s second TD of the game, a one-yard burst, made it 26-0 at halftime.
The lone score of the second half was a 10-yard pass from Neal to Bryce Speer in the third quarter.
Avella (1-1) was led by Chas Rush, who ran for 73 yards on eight carries.
Waynesburg 27, Chartiers-Houston 14
Teagan Crouse threw three touchdown passes and scored on a 13-yard run to lead Waynesburg (2-0) to a 27-14 win against Chartiers-Houston (0-2).
Crouse threw a 21 yard touchdown pass to Hudson Bennett in the second quarter, hit Landon Darr for an 18-yard score in the third and put the game away with a 36-yard strike to Jack Ricciuti.
Dominic Andreolli scored on a 4-yard run and Teegan Bogden threw a 39 yard touchdown pass to Julius Livingston for the Bucs.
Bentworth 41, Jefferson-Morgan 21
Bryce Crowson had a pair of touchdown runs and Bentworth (1-1) scored a 41-21 win over Jefferson-Morgan (0-2).
Crowson scored on an 18-yard run in the second quarter and added a 3-yard score in the fourth quarter.
Ty Watson had a 15-yard touchdown run in the first and threw a 42-yard pass for a score to Kaden Ayers in the second.
Jacob Cavanaugh added a three-yard touchdown for the Bearcats and Noah Heichty returned a kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown.
Beth-Center 48, Riverview 28
Beth-Center trailed by a point at halftime, but outscored Riverview, 34-12 over the final two quarters to secure a 48-28 win Saturday.
DeSean Whipkey had three touchdown runs, scoring from 6, 3 and 2 yards.
Chase Bebout threw two touchdown passes to Dan Duncan. The first one was a 25-yard strike in the second quarter and they connected on a 68-yard score in the third.
Enzo Brown added a pair of touchdowns for the Bulldogs (2-0) on runs of five and 38 yards.
