Chartiers-Houston Buccaneer Band to host 12th annual band festival
The Chartiers-Houston Buccaneer Marching Band will host its annual band festival on Saturday. Eight other area high school marching bands will join the Buccaneer Band for an evening of song, field formations and drumlines.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the first band taking the field at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the general public can be purchased at the door for $10. Student tickets cost $5. The event will take place outdoors at Chartiers-Houston Jr./Sr. High School’s Buccaneer Stadium, 2020 W. Pike Street, Houston.
The 98-member Buccaneer Band will open the evening with its pre-game set, including the national anthem, and close the night’s activities with its high energy field show. Other high school bands joining the festival evening include: Avella Area, Bishop Canevin, Burgettstown, Canon-McMillan, Chartiers Valley, Trinity High School, Upper St. Clair and West Allegheny.
“This year promises to be one of our best festivals yet,” said Buccaneer Band Booster President Bryan Baer. “I can’t think of a better way to spend an evening. There will be hundreds of talented students on the field, under the lights, with some great food and lots of fun.”
In addition to the music, there will be several opportunities to support the bands. Shout-outs, or special notes from friends and families, will be read from the press box microphone, and candy-grams can be purchased and given to individual band members at the end of the evening. There will be a concession stand, basket raffles, bake sale and a 50/50 drawing. Money raised during the event will help support the Buccaneer Marching Band.
The Chartiers-Houston Buccaneer Band is led by director Robert Smokovich, assistant directors Kayla McCormley and Logan Karwoski, and drum major Madison Coffield.
