Water system improvements begin in Union Township

Pennsylvania American Water has begun an approximately $787,000 water main project in Union Township. The project is geared toward helping improve service reliability, reduce the likelihood of disruptions and increase water flow for fire protection. As part of the project, Pennsylvania American Water is replacing 2,670 feet of water main originally installed in the 1990s with a new 12-inch ductile iron main along Patterson Drive, from Holt Drive to Houston Run Road. The project includes installing the new main, connecting customer service lines and restoring the roadway. Final paving and restoration are expected to be completed later this summer. Women of Southwestern PA accepting grant applications

Women of Southwestern PA Inc. is accepting grant applications to benefit children and women in need in Washington, Fayette, Greene, Allegheny, Beaver and Westmoreland counties. Grant applications are being accepted through April 30 for funding requests up to $3,500 from nonprofit charities and community organizations. To qualify, charities must have IRS 501c(3) status, request funds for specific projects which have no state or federal funding and must benefit women or children. More information is available at www.womenofswpa.org. Women of Southwestern PA has disbursed more than $1.3 million during the past 26 years, including more than $130,000 to 47 nonprofits in 2025.
