A Greene County man accused of beating and sexually assaulting his infant son last year pleaded guilty to all counts against him in Greene County Court of Common Pleas Tuesday. Zachary Bryte, 26, of Washington Township, was arrested and charged with attempted homicide in June after his month-old son was taken to UPMC Greene with seizure-like symptoms. The child was then transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va, where doctors found a skull fracture, brain bleeding, rib fractures and other injuries that they determined to be consistent with severe trauma. The Keystone Exams, which are part of a Pennsylvania high school student’s graduation requirements, could soon be under the microscope following a Monday vote in the state’s House of Representatives asking that a study be done to determine if alternatives could be used instead. The vote was 191-10, indicating broad bipartisan support for the measure in the narrowly divided House. It would require the commonwealth’s education department to look at whether other standardized tests that high school students take, such as the SAT, ACT or Smarter Balanced assessments, could be used in its place. The Cecil Board of Supervisors tabled a motion Monday night to authorize township engineer Daniel Deiseroth to conduct a traffic study on the Pennsylvania Route 50 corridor that bisects the rural municipality, opting instead to wait and consider a revised proposal that will include the entire township. Deiseroth explained that the Route 50 study could have been used to inform the placement transportation impact overlay district on the area, which would have imposed a one-time fee on all future developments along the corridor.
