W.Va. snack food salesman accused of bilking three Washington Co. stores

A sales representative distributing Little Debbie snack foods to area retailers is accused of issuing more than $13,000 in fraudulent invoices to several Washington County grocers in order to boost his commission. James Daniel Powell, 39, of Valley Grove, W.Va., was charged last week with multiple felony counts of forgery and theft after City of Washington police accused him of forging the signatures of grocery store employees and never delivering the snack products listed in the invoices. Rotary glass recycling event planned for Saturday

Volunteers from the Washington Rotary Club will assist with recycling of empty bottles and jars this Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at the Log Cabin Drive entrance to the Washington Park recycling center. Only glass bottles and jars are accepted, but color does not matter and lids and labels are acceptable. No other types of glass, including mirrors, light bulbs, window glass or ceramics, are permitted. Rotary members assist with glass recycling on the first Saturday of each month through November, but glass may be recycled any Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. by entering the recycling area at the Wheeling Street entrance. Plastic caps and lids are no longer being collected.

South Strabane tables vote on generator ordinance

The South Strabane Board of Supervisors tabled a scheduled vote Tuesday night to adopt an ordinance governing fossil fuel energy generation, delaying the final piece of a trio of related ordinances and ordinance updates regarding data center development. Township Solicitor Dennis Makel recommended tabling the Use of Fossil Fuel for Power Generation Ordinance after several residents suggested edits to the draft text. McDonald Volunteer Fire Department receives $100,000 state grant

The McDonald Volunteer Fire Department is receiving a $100,000 state grant to pave the department’s parking lot and install an electronic sign for community and fire department announcements.
