Monessen road reopened after sinkhole repaired

State Road in Monessen is reopened for traffic, according to Mayor Ron Mozer. The road was closed between Route 906 and Pennsylvania Avenue earlier this week due to a sinkhole caused by mine subsidence, which created a 12- to- 15-foot deep hole measuring about 10 by 15 feet in the surface area. That prompted Mozer to issue a local disaster emergency declaration Tuesday, which enabled the city to procure services and materials without the required bidding procedure.
