The Everson Borough Council president is facing criminal charges after allegedly placing a tracking device in a borough police car without officers knowing. Jason Frazier, 43, was the registered owner of the Apple AirTag found in the car's trunk, according to his criminal complaint. While patrolling on the night of July 24, Assistant Police Chief Michael Garlowich received a cellphone alert that the device was moving with him in one of the borough’s police cars, the complaint said. The alert then led him to the trunk of the car, where he found the AirTag directly under the police antenna. A newly formed committee will help the Washington County commissioners decide what organizations, nonprofits and programs should receive grants from the county’s share of the nationwide opioid settlement fund. The commissioners during today’s 10 a.m. voting meeting are expected to approve the seven-person review committee that includes county government officials, drug rehabilitation specialists, nonprofit leaders, school administrators and even a local police chief. The United Way of Washington and Greene counties have announced a merger. The two organizations officially came together in January. Both are now operating under the name United Way of Washington and Greene Counties (UWWGC). The United Way in this region and around the country provides funding for local nonprofit groups that focus on such areas as health and education. Community Lenten gatherings will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 1000 Jefferson Ave., Washington, as part of the annual “Route 844 Corridor” churches’ Lenten services. Each year six or seven churches in the western end of the county gather and offer a worship and fellowship get-together for the community. This year the series will use the book, “Meeting Jesus on the Road,” by Cynthia M. Campbell and Christine Coy Fohr.
