Washington man accused of pulling gun on customer outside convenience store

A Washington man is facing felony charges after city police said he pointed a gun at another man outside a local convenience store and threatened to kill him. Police said Brett M. Carroll approached a man at the Uni-Mart store at 500 N. Main St. about 4 p.m. Tuesday and pulled out a handgun while demanding the man pay him a $400 debt. “I’m going to kill you,” Carroll allegedly told the man, according to court documents. “You better run.” Carroll chased the man as the man ran from the scene, but Carroll eventually got into an SUV and left the area, police said. Locust Avenue repairs rescheduled

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 12 updated its anticipated timeline to start work on the currently closed Locust Avenue in South Strabane Township, saying that work will begin on July 27, instead of July 13 as initially projected. The section of roadway between Interstate 79 and Hudak Hill Road closed in March following a landslide induced by a rainstorm. PennDOT District 12 Community Relations Coordinator Melissa Maczko estimated that the road will reopen in mid-October. Public health officials in Pennsylvania and other states are on the lookout for cases of cyclosporiasis, a parasite that spreads through contaminated food and water and can cause severe diarrhea. While there have been outbreaks in Michigan, Northwest Ohio and Illinois, the number of cases in the commonwealth have remained close to normal, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH).
