Canton Township fire hospitalizes one

A man was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after a fire broke out at a Canton Township home Thursday evening. Canton Township Fire Rescue Chief Dominic Sicchitano said crews were called to the 100 block of Bench Avenue shortly before 7 p.m. According to Sicchitano, the fire started because the man, who Sicchitano did not identify, was smoking a cigarette while using an oxygen tank. Sicchitano added that the fire did not cause significant damage. The man was taken by helicopter to an unspecified hospital in Pittsburgh. The extent of his injuries was not immediately available. The state police fire marshal is investigating.

Child injured in North Strabane accident

A 3-year-old child was flown to Pittsburgh Friday afternoon after an accident in North Strabane Township. According to a Washington County 911 supervisor, the accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on Trotwood Drive. The child was injured by a lawn tractor. According to the supervisor, the child suffered a leg injury and was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Pittsburgh. North Strabane's fire and police departments responded to the accident, as well as Ambulance and Chair.
