Waynesburg University pushes back against online hoax

The “fake news” accusation gets tossed around a lot, particularly by public officials who don’t like what the media is reporting. But officials at Waynesburg University are pushing back against something that is really, truly, honestly fake news. On Tuesday night, someone posted a wholly fake but convincing-looking press release on the social media site Yik Yak stating that the university would be discontinuing its varsity football program starting in the 2026-27 academic year “and transition the sport into a women’s varsity flag football program.” The fake press release contained made-up quotes from Douglas G. Lee, the university’s president, about the football ...

Bus stop: J-M votes down joint transportation agreement

A proposed joint transportation agreement between three Greene County schools was ultimately too expensive to make work for now, Jefferson-Morgan School District Superintendent Brandon Robinson said. The district’s board voted 9-0 Monday to reject proposed bids for the joint contract, which would have covered Jefferson Morgan as well as Central Greene and Carmichaels districts. The district received back bids from First Student, J-M’s current transportation vendor, as well as Student Transportation of America (STA). Five-year estimates from both companies starting in 2026-27 came in above the current rates. That in itself could’ve just reflected “the rising cost of ...

Peters Twp. and Pine-Richland meet again in WPIAL 5A final

Motivation in sports can come from many places. For the Peters Township football team, it was a loss in the WPIAL Class 5A championship to Pine-Richland last year. That evened the score between the two teams after the Indians won in 2023. It also made for a long offseason with a goal to ...

OP-ED: Random thoughts about man’s stupidity

I am only 18 months away from turning 80, and truthfully, the way things are going, if seven more of my classmates pass away, I could end up being the valedictorian of my high school class. One thing I’ve consistently observed in life is the ongoing display of consistency that humankind ...
