North Franklin considering data center ordinance

North Franklin Township will hold a public hearing next month on an ordinance that would regulate the development of cryptocurrency mining and data center facilities in the township. The municipality’s board of supervisors voted Tuesday to schedule a public hearing on the ordinance for 4:30 p.m. April 14. There will also be a public hearing for an ordinance concerning fossil fuel electric generating facilities. Bob Sabot, chair of the board of supervisors, said there are currently no plans for a data center in the township. “No one has come forward saying they want to put a data center in North Franklin Township, but we’re being extremely proactive,” Sabot said. Former youth football director heads to trial on theft charges

The former director of a local youth football league will head to trial on charges that alleged he embezzled about $235,000 from the organization. Charges against 57-year-old William Spencer were held for the Washington County Court of Common Pleas on Wednesday. He had been scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing that morning. Spencer, of Canton Township, resigned from his role leading the Western Pennsylvania Youth Football League last March after the league’s members became concerned about the organization’s finances and lack of a payment to its insurance provider. South Strabane man charged in assault

South Strabane police arrested a man Tuesday after he was accused of assaulting his girlfriend. Garrett Devon Ware, 29, of South Strabane, faces a felony charge of strangulation and misdemeanors of terroristic threats and simple assault. According to the criminal complaint, shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to the 1600 block of Pierce Avenue. Ware allegedly choked Rachel Gilles and punched her. Charging documents state that Ware was in possession of a firearm and threatened her life. Ware was arraigned Tuesday afternoon before District Judge Charles Tenny, who sent him to the Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.

Dunkard Township OKs solar farm application

The Dunkard Township supervisors unanimously approved the application for a solar farm in Dilliner at its meeting Monday. The 3.706-megawatt Aquatong Creek Solar Farm is planned to be located on nine acres of private property being leased off of Old Water Works Road.
