Peters Township council approves new scoreboard, traffic signal

Peters Township council on Monday approved a more than $425,000 contract for the replacement of a traffic signal. Council voted unanimously to award the contract to the Prospect-based Bronder Technical Services. The project will involve replacing the traffic signal at the intersection of Route 19 and Gallery Drive. The work will be partially funded by a $219,996.50 grant from the state Department of Transportation. The township will provide a dollar-for-dollar match, as well as an additional $22,589. Rotary Club hosting trivia contest

The Washington Rotary Club will hold its annual Rotary Charity Trivia Contest at 7 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the South Franklin Fire Hall. Rotary will donate $1,250 to the charity of the winning team’s choice, $750 to the second-place team’s charity and $500 to the third-place team’s charity. The event consists of 50 questions segmented into 10 categories of five questions each plus the occasional bonus round. All teams play simultaneously, with answers written on a notecard and scores tabulated by the quizmasters and scorekeepers. Charleroi mother facing charges for poor living conditions

A Charleroi mother is facing charges for poor living conditions after her husband was arrested over the weekend. Roldy Noel, 27, was charged Monday by Charleroi police with two felonies of endangering the welfare of children. Jackson Alexis, Noel's husband, was arrested Saturday following a medical call to their home in the 500 block of Rear McKean Avenue. Charging documents allege that while police were at the home, Noel's and Alexis' daughter used a bucket to go the bathroom. Officers found the home had no running water, a broken toilet, a shower filled with brown water and garbage piled up in a corner. North Strabane man accused of stealing from roommate

North Strabane Township police charged a man Friday on allegations that he stole more than $10,000 from his roommate. Michael Anthony Luzzi, 31, of North Strabane Township, faces felony charges of identity theft, unlawful use of a computer, access device fraud and criminal use of a communication facility. According to the criminal complaint, in October, Edward Cottrill reported to police that Luzzi had taken money from his BetMGM and Chime accounts. Charging documents state that in February 2025 Cottrill moved in to a residence with Luzzi in the 400 block of Greenwood Drive.
