Freedom Transit to close Monday

Freedom Transit’s Washington Transit Center will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Fixed route service will not operate. Shared ride services will operate from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shared-ride passengers who need shared-ride transportation on Saturday or Monday should call 724-223-8747 before noon Friday. Ceremony honoring bugler postponed

Due to an inclement weather forecast for Saturday, a Memorial Day ceremony rededicating a memorial to Civil War bugler John Ross Dunn at the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Ruff Creek, Greene County, has been postponed. The ceremony will be rescheduled for a later date, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) announced Thursday. Dunn served as bugler of the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry, known as “The Ringgolds.” Buglers played a vital role on the battlefield, transmitting orders and signals that guided troop movements during combat.
