Teen Outreach hosts annual conference

UPMC Washington Teen Outreach will hold its annual youth conference Thursday, April 16, at Washington & Jefferson College. Ten Washington County school districts and more than 130 students will be participating in the conference, which is being called “Teen Mental Health Aid.” Thirteen interactive activities have been prepared regarding the topic of mental health, and the conference will be conducted through “speed learning,” where participants move between learning stations. The conference will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in W&J’s Rossin Ballroom. For information, call 201-637-2921 or 724-222-2311.

Speakers announced for W&J commencement ceremony

A member of the family that owns the Pittsburgh Steelers will be among the speakers at Washington & Jefferson College’s spring commencement ceremony. Thomas J. Rooney, a grandson of Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney Sr., will be the commencement speaker at the ceremony, which will be held Saturday, May 9, at W&J’s James David Ross Family Recreation Center. A 1993 graduate of W&J, Rooney was a Florida congressman from 2009 to 2019, and is now president and CEO of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association. Demoted LH principal says 'it was time to make a change'

The former Laurel Highlands High School principal who was moved to another district building in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations against two teachers said Wednesday that his transfer was not the result of any wrongdoing. John Diamond, who is now assistant principal at the middle school, said he had been reassigned on March 31, switching places with Bobbi Downs.
