Contractor dies while cutting down tree in Canton

A contractor who was hired to cut down a tree in Canton Township was killed Monday afternoon when the tree fell onto the person. According to a news release issued by the Washington County coroner's office, the accident occurred in the 1000 block of Lynn Portal Road at 3:47 p.m. The victim's identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The cause and manner of death are pending investigation by the coroner and Greene-Washington Regional Police. Assisting at the scene were Ambulance and Chair EMS, and Canton, Chartiers, and South Strabane fire departments.
