Fire forces evacuation of City Mission in Washington
A 5-year-old boy was taken by a medical helicopter to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh after nearly drowning in a backyard swimming pool in Nottingham Township Friday afternoon. The incident occurred in the 200 block of Pine Nut Drive, according to a Washington County 911 dispatcher. The boy was pulled from the water about 12:40 p.m. by someone who was attending a party at the pool, according to Pennsylvania State Police spokesman Rocco Gagliardi. EMS personnel administered CPR to the boy before he was flown to the hospital. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.
The Fayette County branch of a Canadian oilfield services company will be closing later this year. The Smithfield facility of the Calgary, Alberta-based Calfrac Well Services employs 75 people, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification the company filed last week with the state Department of Labor. Layoffs will occur in phases, starting on July 20 and ending on Sept. 30, the notice said. The company did not return calls for comment.
