Greene County miner killed by falling rock

A Greene County man was killed by falling rock in a mine accident Tuesday night. Zachary Wolfe, 34, of Rices Landing, died in the 10 p.m. accident at the Bailey Mine in Aleppo Township, the Greene County Coroner’s Office said in a statement Wednesday. An investigation by Pennsylvania State Police determined Wolfe was fatally injured after being crushed by rock. Wolfe was pronounced dead at 11:39 p.m., the coroner’s office said. Greene County Emergency Management Agency Director Richard Policz said EMS services and the New Freeport Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. Sons of Union veterans to honor bugler in Greene ceremony

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) will conduct a solemn Memorial Day ceremony honoring John Ross Dunn, bugler of the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry, known as “The Ringgolds,” at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Ruff Creek, Greene County. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23, and is open to the public. Dunn served as a bugler in the first of Pennsylvania’s distinguished Civil War cavalry units. Buglers played a vital role on the battlefield, transmitting orders and signals that guided troop movements during combat.
