Ukraine documentary to be screened at W&J

A documentary about the ongoing war in Ukraine, “Stand Tall for the Rule of Law,” will be shown Oct. 13, at 6 p.m., at Washington & Jefferson College’s Yost Conference Room in the Burnett Center. Monessen woman pleads guilty to check-cashing scheme

A Monessen woman pleaded guilty in federal court last week in Pittsburgh to bank fraud for a nearly $1.9 million check-cashing scheme over more than a decade in North Strabane Township. Emily Roberts, 55, pleaded guilty to the scheme while providing cleaning services at a home, where she repeatedly stole checks from the victim’s checkbook, wrote the checks out to cash and forged a signature on the checks before depositing the money into her own personal bank account. Investigators said Roberts obtained $1.89 million through the deposit of 636 checks from January 2014 to March 2026. U.S. District Judge W. Scott Hardy scheduled sentencing for Feb. 10. Donegal man accused of raping woman at Chartiers Township house

A Donegal Township man is accused of raping a woman inside her Chartiers Township home after helping her when she called him with car trouble last week. Chartiers Township police said the woman called 28-year-old Logan Matthew McDonough to help with her car and then invited him into her home for coffee shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday. While in the kitchen, McDonough allegedly forced himself on the woman despite her telling him she did consent to the sexual encounter, police said. The situation caused her to bleed and McDonough eventually stopped before leaving the house, according to court documents.
