State Senate races highlight Tuesday’s primary election
The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) will conduct a solemn Memorial Day ceremony honoring John Ross Dunn, bugler of the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry, known as “The Ringgolds,” at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Ruff Creek, Greene County. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23, and is open to the public. Dunn served as a bugler in the first of Pennsylvania’s distinguished Civil War cavalry units. Buglers played a vital role on the battlefield, transmitting orders and signals that guided troop movements during combat. Election Day meals The Center Township VFD Auxiliary will have food for sale on Election Day from 8 a.m to 7 p.m. Breakfast will include sausage and biscuits. The Washington School District Board of Education adopted the preliminary 2026-27 budget earlier this week pending public review and final adoption in June. The budget projects $35,707,124 in total revenue to cover $36,851,554 in expenses, leaving a $1,144,430 deficit, which will be filled with reserve funds. The new budget will also decrease the property tax rate on district homeowners due to a unique situation relating to state funding. A Dilliner man was arrested on charges of possessing multiple images of child pornography. Police began investigating Johnie Carter, 42, after a Cybertipline report from Google to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alleged he had saved seven images involving children, according to the criminal complaint. Charging documents stated at least one photo included a child estimated to be as young as 5. Subscriber information linked to the account led police to an address in Dilliner where Carter resided, police said.
