The Washington School District Board of Education adopted the preliminary 2026-27 budget earlier this week pending public review and final adoption in June. The budget projects $35,707,124 in total revenue to cover $36,851,554 in expenses, leaving a $1,144,430 deficit, which will be filled with reserve funds. The new budget will also decrease the property tax rate on district homeowners due to a unique situation relating to state funding. A Dilliner man was arrested on charges of possessing multiple images of child pornography. Police began investigating Johnie Carter, 42, after a Cybertipline report from Google to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alleged he had saved seven images involving children, according to the criminal complaint. Charging documents stated at least one photo included a child estimated to be as young as 5. Subscriber information linked to the account led police to an address in Dilliner where Carter resided, police said. The deadline for the commonwealth’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) program has been extended to Dec. 31. The deadline extension gives eligible Pennsylvanians additional time to apply for rebates on property taxes or rent paid in 2025. So far, the Department of Revenue has received 400,000 rebate applications this year. Last year, more than 500,000 seniors and people with disabilities received rebates totaling more than $315 million. The program benefits residents who are aged 65 or older, widowers and widowers aged 50 and older and people with disabilities aged 18 and older.
